The cost of crystalline silicon solar panels is too high.Later,in order to manufacture more flexible solar panels,thin-film solar panels appeared. This kind of solar panels only requires less materials.Generally, the thickness of the silicon layer is only one micron, which is about one third of the width of single crystal and polycrystalline solar cells.
Thin film solar panels are also made of amorphous amorphous silicon, but amorphous silicon does not have the characteristics of semiconductor and needs to be combined with hydrogen to conduct electricity.Amorphous thin film solar panels are often used in electronic products such as calculators and watches.
Difference between thin film solar panel and photovoltaic panel
The obvious difference is the thickness. The traditional solar panel uses crystalline silicon.Although the solar panel has high energy conversion efficiency, the actual light absorption efficiency is poor.Only the solar panel is thick enough can the actual efficiency be improved.
Thin film solar panels are about 350 times thinner than traditional ones.Solar panels can be prepared by coating or depositing on the surface of glass, metal, plastic and other materials,so that different types of materials can make full use of light energy and improve efficiency.
However,at present,thin-film solar panels also have many disadvantages. For example, cadmium in cadmium telluride batteries will be highly toxic if inhaled, and will seep into the ground or water source if not handled properly. In addition, the price of thin-film solar panels is higher than that of crystalline silicon, and there are higher requirements for production and storage temperature, which leads to a lack of popularity of thin-film solar panels.
